Easy Potato Stew

This is a simple potato stew recipe which goes well with appam,idiappam,roti etc
Ingredients:-
Boiled Potatoes – 5 small
Sliced Onion – 1 big
Sliced Tomato – 1/2
Green Chillies slit – 5
Ginger- Garlic paste – 1 tsp
Meat Masala – 2 tsp
(Or add chilly powder,coriander powder and garam masala powder combined together)
Pepper Powder – 1/2 tsp
Thick Coconut milk – 1/2 cup
Curry leaves – a sprig
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Water – as needed
Salt – to taste
Oil – as needed
Method:-
Peel off the skin of boiled potatoes and crumble using your hands into medium size pieces.Heat oil in a pan,pop the mustard seeds .add onion,curry leaves,salt,green chillies and ginger – garlic paste and saute until onion turns translucent.Stir in masala and fry for a while.Add in tomatoes and potatoes,stir and add water.Mix in coconut milk and simmer it for few more minutes stirring in bewteen.Add pepper powder and mix well.Switch off the heat.

Thanks for stopping by my blog. Whenever i make idiyappam i have it with some milk and sugar,however my hubby doesn’t like it that way…so will try your potato stew next time.

Potato stew I know of and I make very often, has just the cubed potatoes, sliced onions, lots of – slit green cillies+ ginger juliennes , salt, coconut milk(or regular grinded coconut) and finally for garnishing, lots of curry leaves and few drizzles of coconut oil. that’s abt it. No mustard seeds or garlic, or masalas or tomatoes are added to our stew. Well, I’ll have to try yours the next time I make Idli or Idiappams. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

My gradma used to prepare the same with pattani (peas). I just love her stew. Still now searching for this recipe. Thanks Annita. It goes well with kuska or coconut milk rice.
