A Dal Fry – Simple Meals Meme

Shaheen of Malabar Spices has tagged me with a meme about simple meals .And this is my contribution to her simple meal list.


Chappathi & Dal Fry

This is the first dish i’ve ever cooked by myself.There is nothing particular about this dal dish,but i love it for its simplicity.If the dal is cooked first,it takes hardly 5 mins to prepare this dish.

Here’s the recipe..

Ingredients:-

Toor dal – 1 cup
Sliced onion – 1
Sliced Tomato -1/2
Dried red chillies crushed – 2 tsp
Ginger-Garlic paste – 1 tsp
Turmeric powder – 1/2 tsp
Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – a few
Salt – to taste
Oil – as needed

Method:-

Pressure cook toor dal by adding water and salt.Heat oil in a pan and add mustard seeds into it.Allow it to splutter.Add onion,ginger-garlic paste,crushed red chillies,turmeric powder and curry leaves and saute till onions turn translucent.Add tomoto slices and saute for a while .Stir in cooked dal and necessary water and allow it to boil and turn the heat off.Serve with chappathis.
